FAQ

Mad Science Frequently Asked Questions and Policies:

How long has Mad Science been running After-School Programs?

Mad Science of Southern NH and Northern MA is a franchise of The Mad Science Group. Our programs are created by a team of professional scientists and teachers at our head office, in Montreal, QC. Millions of children in over 160 locations, in 22 countries have enjoyed our programs. Mad Science of Southern NH and Northern MA has been running After-School Programs for  years.

What ages/grades are the After-School Programs designed for?

Most of our after-school programs are designed for children in 2nd to sixth grade. However, we may also offer our Science Explorers Program which is appropriate for children in Kindergarten and First grade.

Are different aged children in the same program?

A few of our programs are divided by age, but, for the most part, they are not; we use a buddy system where, if required, the older children help the younger ones. Also, our low child to instructor ratio ensures that there is always plenty of help. Please see the online registration form or call us to see which programs are divided by age/grade.

Who are the Mad Science Instructors?

Mad Science instructors tend to be college students pursuing an education or science degree, former/retired teachers, or currently teaching teachers. Most of our instructors have worked for us in our other programs. All of our instructors have experience working with large groups of elementary-aged children and have undergone an extensive background check. They also receive after-school program specific training. The main characteristic of our instructors is that they all share a love of working with children and the desire to spark and nurture their students imaginations!

Do you offer extended care?

Mad Science does not currently provide extended care after our after-school programs. However, extended care may be available through your child's school. If so, your child would be escorted to the program by the Mad Science Instructor after class.

How do I register my child for an After-School Program?

Depending on the location of the program, there may be many ways to register: mail, over the phone, in person, or online. The easiest way is through our online registration system. It takes about 5 minutes and accepts Visa, MasterCard, and checks. All of our Mad Science hosted programs will be made available through our online registration system. Our partners’ programs registrations are handled directly through our partners (such as the school districts, parks & rec., etc.). On occasion, we provide registration assistance to a partner-hosted program.

Note: Registration requirements, start dates, end dates, and minimum program size may vary by location. Due to limited spaces in each program, we cannot reserve a space for your child until we receive your payment. If you are paying by check, we do not reserve your space until we receive the check.

How soon do I need to register to reserve a space for my child?

Some programs and dates fill very quickly, while some may have spaces available up to the start date. We recommend that you register as soon as possible, because space availability depends on how quickly everyone else signs up! Your registration is not considered complete until we've received payment.

The class is full, now what?

Due to some of our programs filling very quickly, our online registration system will allow you to add your child to our wait list. If a     spot becomes available someone from the Mad Science office will be in touch to finalize registration. However, adding your child to the wait list does not guarantee them a spot in the current program or future programs.

When is payment due?

Payment is due prior to the start of the program. Your child's registration will not be considered complete until payment is received. Our partners' programs may require payment at the time of registration.

What is your refund policy?

For all after-school registrations (i.e. our online registration system, phone-in, paper), cancellations that are communicated more than 14 days prior to the start of the program are subject to a refund, less a $25 service charge.

If your child decides he or she doesn't want to continue after the first week of the program, you may withdraw and receive a full refund, less a $50 cancellation fee. However, you must call Mad Science at (603) 362-9800 prior to the start of the second week of the program to obtain a refund. After that, no refunds will be given.

My child has attended a Mad Science After-School Program before, will it be the same program that he/she has taken before?

We have many after-school program themes which allows us to offer new programming for at least two years!

My child has taken a Mad Science After-School Program before, but I do not remember which one.

Call us and we will be happy to look it up for you. If you have used our online registration system in the past, you may also look up your previous orders in your account.

Does Mad Science have a minimum enrollment requirement?

The minimum number of children necessary to hold an after-school program is 12. Mad Science tries to inform parents as soon as possible should it appear that a program will not reach its minimum enrollment. On these occasions, we will offer priority enrollment in other programs. Contact us for additional information on program cancellations.

What should my child bring/wear to an After-School Program?

Mad Science provides all the equipment and materials for both the in-class activities and the take home projects. All you need to provide is a child who is ready to have fun!

What are the expectations of the students? The parents?

Mad Science strives at all times to provide fun and safe science activities for all children participating in our classes. To fulfill this commitment, we ask that all children enrolled adhere to basic behavioral guidelines. Our instructors set clear boundaries and expectations as to appropriate conduct and we will hold all students to these expectations. In addition, Mad Science will follow all of the school’s rules and policies regarding student behavioral expectations. We stress at the beginning of each class that the school rules are still in effect. We ask your cooperation should any parent be notified of discipline problems. It is our intention to provide children with, not deprive them of, exciting and fun science. It is only when a child interrupts this positive learning environment that we would take any such action.  We reserve the right to withdraw a student from the class if their behavior is deemed disruptive, bullying, and/or unsafe by Mad Science.

Mad Science also has expectations of the parents whose children are enrolled. Only children with a sincere interest in our programs and the necessary maturity to handle an extension of the school day should be allowed to enroll. An approved guardian must pick up each child at the designated pick up location promptly at the dismissal of class. Late Pickup Fees may be incurred for excessive tardiness.

Medical Information about your child

Prior to actual attendance at a Mad Science after-school program, we require certain medical information from you regarding your child. This is to assist the Mad Science Instructor with knowledge of specific considerations for your child.

You must be aware that all after-school program activities involve some risk, and, by registering for a Mad Science program, there is an assumption of risk made by the participant. Mad Science is dedicated to securing safe facilities for our programs and using personnel and equipment that is designed to be safe.

By enrolling your child in a Mad Science program, you do agree to not hold Mad Science Group, its Franchisees, Agents, Representatives, Facilities, Employees, Managers, Contractors and Instructors liable for any medical emergencies or conditions your child may experience, related directly or indirectly to a Mad Science program.

Satisfaction is guaranteed!

The Mad Science guarantee is simple: If you are not satisfied with the Mad Science experience, we will do what it takes to make it right.
